Cheddon Fitzpaine Church School – EYFS Vision Statement

In the Early Years at Cheddon we want children to be happy, confident, independent and reflective well-rounded individuals with a love of and for learning. This will be fostered within a Christian environment.  We believe in providing all children with a safe and stimulating environment that builds on individual’s wants, needs and interests.

Children should have the opportunity to learn through play, where learning is fun, engaging and suitably challenging. We value the importance of our outdoor environment and believe that it offers children the opportunity to develop their thinking and problem-solving skills. Adults provide high quality interactions where they are role models for learning.

We are committed to providing the best possible start to their school life, teaching our children skills and giving them experiences which will ensure their well-being now and success in the future.

The EYFS Framework

The EYFS framework explains how and what children will be learning, to support their healthy development.  Children will learn skills, acquire new knowledge and demonstrate their understanding through seven areas of learning and development.

The three prime areas are:

*Communication and language
*Physical development
*Personal, social and emotional development
These prime areas are those most essential for a child’s healthy development and future learning.
As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in the four specific areas. These are:
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the world
Expressive arts and design

All seven areas of learning are used to plan children’s learning and activities. This does not mean that all your child’s learning is divided up into specific areas.  One experience may provide a child with opportunities to develop a number of skills and concepts across several areas of learning.

Phonics
Phonics teaching and learning are a key part of the Foundation Stage and help to develop early reading and writing skills.  At Cheddon Fitzpaine Church School, we follow the DfE Letters and Sounds, a copy of which can be found by clicking here.

Parent Partnership

At Cheddon Fitzpaine Church School, we encourage and value partnerships with parents, so they are actively involved in their children’s learning. This is supported through the use of Tapestry, an online platform, where parents can view their child’s learning; via photographs, videos and observations. Parents can also upload their own comments and media, which together helps build a shared understanding of every child. Please find further information by clicking here.
