Class organisation at Cheddon
Cheddon Fitzpaine Church School is a five class school. We operate a mixed age class structure.
These are as follows:
Reception and Year 1 - Class 1
Year 1 and Year 2 - Class 2
Year 2 and Year 3 - Class 3
Year 4 and Year 5 - Class 4
Year 5 and Year 6 - Class 5
The reception year is know as the Early Years Foundation Stage or EYFS for short.
Years 1 and 2 are known as Key Stage 1
Years 3,4,5 & 6 are known as Key Stage 2
Because we have mixed age classes, there will be a time when your child will spend two years in the same classroom. We have a carefully planned curriculum to ensure that the children have the same experiences no matter which class they are in. This can be explored here: Subjects | Cheddon Fitzpaine Church School
How do we decide which class your child goes in?
For the children moving into year 1 from reception we base the decision on whether the child has made the expected progress and achieved a good level of development as well as the child's age. For some children they may benefit from the EYFS environment for another year, however we ensure that year 1 children in class 1 are taught the year 1 curriculum.
For all other classes throughout the school we base the decision on the child's age not on the child's academic attainment. There may be times particularly if the child has a special education need that it is more appropriate for them to remain in their current class, but this is always decided after discussions are held with the parents.
