Problem solving in Year 5

Today the Year 5s were challenged to use all there learning from their number sense unit of work to co-ordinate a space launch.  They had to use their knowledge of place value to work the astronauts’ dates of births.  They then had to calculate which astronauts could be taken on the spaceship without exceeding the weight limit.  They have used rounding to work out possible weights of food items and have cracked padlock codes using their knowledge of Roman numerals.  It was a really fun lesson.
